There, experience is taken to mean something very specific: a highlighted event or production, separated from everyday practice. While Edward M. Bruner’s introduction leans heavily on Dilthey’s concept of experience (1976) as what has been ‘lived through’ (Bruner 1986:3), Bruner, Turner et al. : 5). By contrast, I include the banality of daily practice and the often taken-for-granted ambience which is experienced through all the bodily senses. This embraces the non-verbal, although the odd verbal interjection may provide a clue to the former.
